Knowing the Possible Disasters of Hawaii

By Hedrick Lepsch

Hawaii is a beautiful place to live. This state is a verdant island paradise that features beautiful views, spectacular blue oceans, warm temperatures, and a host of activities to engage in.

To both the people that live there and the people who visit, this state is a place of great beauty and is truly special among all of the places on this earth. That being said, disasters can affect Hawaii like they can any other area on Earth.

First of all, Hawaii is going to be affected by disasters just like any other island would be in the right circumstances. Tropical storms and torrential rain and floods all can and will happen during the heavy storm season.

First, you want to make sure that you know how forest stars can be started. There are many people that think forest fires are all started by men and women, but forest fires can also be started naturally and there is not much that we can do to prevent these types of fires.

In an island setting, one can expect a lot of water to come up, especially in the case of tropical storms. Therefore, it is best to prepare with good landscaping, shoring up foundations and seals, and making sure that the roof is in good shape.

As such, it is a good idea for people in the area to be ready for such events. Disaster readiness will make a huge difference when it actually comes time to get through one of these experiences.

The other big thing which can and will affect Hawaii is volcanic and seismic activity. Hawaii is located on a tectonic area known as the Ring of Fire, which is a ring shaped area of the Pacific Ocean marked by tectonic plates grinding into each other.

The actions of these tectonic plates creates a lot of seismic activity, as well as triggering volcanic activity as well. Hawaii is already a volcanic area, with a few active volcanoes giving off lava flows to this day.

The dormant volcanoes of Hawaii have the potential to be reawaked if there was a truly strong seismic event. However, the more pressing concern should be the potential for earthquakes. Earthquakes are common in areas that are seismically active. When a tectonic plate shifts or impacts another, it triggers waves of earthquakes in the area it happened in.

While most of these quakes are small and cannot even be felt by most people, the fact of the matter is that the big ones are much more potent and destructive. Big quakes will do a lot of damage to infrastructure and wreak havoc in the area it happens in.

When a big wave is triggered by tectonic activity, it can move under great power for hundreds of miles and devastate the location it impacts. Therefore, this kind of tectonic activity is something that needs to be addressed and understood. By looking into these disasters, people should be able to get a better idea of how to prepare for them. As a direct result, everyone involved can hopefully be safer.
