How Leadership Speakers Could Go About Describing The Qualities Needed

By Briana Jake Woodward

Most companies organize corporate events, mostly to publicize their objectives or their new message that they wish the public to understand. Leadership speakers are routinely invited to present the main speech at such events. It is seen as dignified and honorable. The main point is that leadership is recognized as one of the most important subjects in this modern world.

The topic of leadership is controversial because there are so many different theories. It is common knowledge, however, that the issue of respect should be the main theme in any lecture that addresses this issue. A leadership speaker should respect their constituencies and the members of the group should have respect for the leader if the goals of the group are to be achieved.

The biggest failure of leaders is not recognizing the fact that they cannot be in charge in all possible situations. In fact, people who suffer from such delusions are normally called dictators. Good leaders understand the fact that they sometimes have to yield to somebody that is better able to manage a specific situation. For example, a mayor will have to relinquish control when a fire breaks out during an important meeting.

Nothing frustrates people as much as an indecisive person. Anybody that has been elected, formally or informally, to lead a group has to have the guts to make decisions and to stick to them. Of course, decisions should be reached in a spirit of consultation, but in the end, somebody must take responsibility and actually take action. Real leaders should not be scared of this responsibility.

Empathy and sympathy is not the same thing. Leaders cannot function if they are driven by pure sympathy, but they have to understand the needs and desires of their fellow team members. They need to be able to provide support and they have to be able to develop strategies in which individual strengths and weaknesses are accounted for without punishing any individual.

Leaders have to understand that they have undertaken a role in which they will serve the group that they represent. Even those people that have opposed the leadership have the right of support. Service, not authority, is the true hallmark of true leadership. The very best leaders of history have understood the fact that they are under the rule of their followers.

Communication is an essential part of leadership. Nobody likes to be in the dark. Therefore, effective leaders take trouble to consult with their teams and to get their opinions. Modern practices ask that all teams, regardless of size, strive towards consensus in reaching decisions that will have an influence on the larger populace.

So, leadership speakers that pronounce upon the qualities that are required from a good leader should focus upon the basic principles of human service. Roles are not a means to power, but rather a means to serve. Those that seek these roles and that wish to rule will soon see their own demise.
