Homeland Security Careers

The Department of Homeland Security in the United States has been growing rather quickly over the past decade, and there are numerous new job opportunities available to job seekers currently looking for employment. The positions available are for job seekers with various levels of experience and backgrounds, therefore there is really something for everyone to look at these days.

There are four main job paths to look at in the Department of Homeland Security, every path comes with a different area of expertise that is required to get started.

The first career path is mission support. Some examples of the types of vacancies available under this category include positions at the Military Advisor's office, the Office of the Secretary and the National Cyber Security Center. There are a quantity of different positions to be found in this job field, and the annual salary ranges from $30,000 to $130,000 per year.

The next route someone can follow is the Law Enforcement arm of Homeland Security. These are basically the individuals that will be seen more often by the public. The U.S. Secret Service falls under this category of Homeland Security, and US Customs and Border Protection are also part of this field. You will have to undertake specific courses to land one of these jobs.

The next branch of Homeland Security has to do with travelling. Most job seekers know about the Transportation Security Administration because of the negative press it has received ever since it was created, but US Citizenship and Immigration Services are as well part of this department. You will have to undergo a training process if you wish to work for the TSA any time soon.

The last branch of Homeland Security that you may wish to take a look at is the branch focused on prevention and response. FEMA and the US Coast Guard are involved with this branch of the Department of Homeland Security. There are many various types of vacancies available at these two branches, and various positions will come with different sets of requirements and prerequisites.
