Picking the Best Childcare

By Neal Zalenski

Trusting someone else to take care of your child is one of the most difficult things that you will ever have to do.This is the same child that you delivered into the world after enduring nine months of being pregnant. This is the same child who you nurse, feed and take care of whether he is in good health or sick.Obviously, you don't see a problem with your mother or mother-in-law looking after him while you are away. But, leaving him with his grandparents is not the same as leaving him in a childcare facility. So, what are you going to do to get the right childcare for your son?

Start researching the daycares that are in your area.Find out everything that you can about them. You will need to inspect each facility, but this can be done at a later time. But in the very beginning, you can do most of the important work via the internet.Visit the websites of the State agencies that are responsible for providing inspection services, licensing and certifications for various daycares.See how your favorite picks are rated on these sites.

If your favorite daycare centers did not receive good ratings, then take them off of your list.Did you know that it is possible to find out information such as when each childcare facility received its last safety inspection and if it passed? If the inspectors found anything wrong, you can get reports that will list the violations. The bottom line is that you can do a lot of your research via the internet without ever leaving your home.

When you have a few centers on your list, then you can make personal visits to them.It is considered rude to show up unannounced, but following this rule is not what matters right now.Just do a walk-in inspection of each facility that you like. This will give you a chance to find out what is really going on.Don't give them a chance to tidy things up before you arrive.

This will give you a chance to check out some of the following things. Is the childcare facility clean?Make sure that the daycare center does not have any hidden hazards that will be too dangerous for your child.Ask about the staff and their education and background. A reputable daycare will run background checks on all employees, whether they are teachers are not.Ask about each teacher and whether or not she has taken the appropriate child care courses.

Quite naturally, you would prefer to find a center where all of the teachers on staff have a certificate 3 in childcare, but you might not find this at all centers.Unfortunately, some of these centers only babysit and not teach children. They do not really specialize in learning activities at all. However, there are daycares that teach children and not just babysit them.Learning centers are normally a little bit more expensive, but only you can determine which one is right for your child.

In conclusion, you need someone to take care of your child while you are away. But, it is imperative that you find an outstanding one. Be certain that this childcare center employs staff that is professional and that the center is both clean and safe. You might not like getting it done, but you have to do it eventually.
