Deadly SEO Mistakes that Will Spoil Your Efforts

By Amparo Dillon

It's a good idea to use SEO so that the search engines rank your site. If you aren't very experienced with SEO, it's easy to make some of the mistakes we'll be discussing here.

Many website owners don't realize that it's an SEO mistake to have pages with many images and little content. You can certainly use images that improve the way your site looks, but keep in mind that they don't help much from an SEO point of view. Instead of that, you should try and get more unique content that not only helps the readers but also gives the search engines a reason to rank you well. You can use images to make the site more appealing, but always put the emphasis on content. Images won't help you with the search engines, and having too many of them will also make your site slower for visitors, something else you don't want. The way to make your images help your SEO efforts is to By doing this, you have another place for the search engines to read your keywords, as they can't read the images themselves. Images, though, can never replace worthwhile content on your site, and this is the best place for your keywords to be. Search engines love written content, which is why you should keep it in mind all the time.

There are many times that you believe you are doing the right SEO things, but in actual fact what you are doing is wrong. When you don't understand or follow the instructions given by the search engines is when this tends to happen. There are specific rules that need to adhered to before you can get high rankings, not paying attention to them can be harmful to you. Most of the dishonest SEO tactics go opposite these norms, which is not the proper way. You should make it your goal to operate inside the guidelines given by the search engines and establish a relationship with them, and not go against them because you are without a doubt are not going to beat them. It is alright to cook up new SEO strategies, but you should not risk your website and its reputation to do it.

The search engines also consider a site's speed when they rank it, so make sure yours is not too slow. Nor is having a slow site a good policy for keeping your visitors. If you are using more code than you need, this may be slowing down the time it takes for your site to load, and neither the search engines or your visitors will like this. Having an external CSS file and not an internal CSS file will prevent this from happening. This is more efficient and will enable your pages to load faster. Search engines are all about speed and relevancy, so you'll have to agree with them and understand the importance of your site's speed. Essentially, by creating a quality site that visitors will enjoy, you are also doing what the search engines want.

In general, by paying attention to all the details you can avoid making these and other SEO mistakes. Not making such mistakes can go a long way in bringing you success at SEO.
