Where To Get Free MP3s

By Michael Raja

Music plays a necessary role in all our lives, whether we'd really like to confess or not. Besides the radio and your MP3 player, where would you be well placed to get some music to fill your soul? Below are some proposals as to where to get some free music without falling prey to the law.

Spotify

If you don't mind not downloading your music, then Spotify is a way of listening to the music you would like at no charge. It streams music over the internet, and you can create playlists and it will suggest more music for you to hear. On the free account you will have to listen to intermittent ads, and you are limited to 10 hours of music each month, but hey, it is free and it gives you an opportunity to sample the newest tracks out there without needing to pay anything.

Jamendo

This site has over 50,000 MP3 albums to hand for your ears pleasure. It involves the use of the Creative Commons license, which implies you can download it and play it so long as you're not using it for commercial uses. The best bit for the artists: they get a slice of the ad revenue. Win-win-win all around.

Epitonic

The best place to get free indie music. The issue with places offering free music is that it often is a mixture bag "some alright, but almost all of it is not. Epitonic clears up this by having a team of people hacking away at the rubbish and keeping the good stuff. The team also create playlists.

Last.FM

A free streaming net radio service that can let you select what genre you want to listen to. You can even type in the name of an artist or a song and get music recommendations that way. As with Spotify you will have to listen to adverts intermittently, but that's what makes it free from charge.

Depending on your work IT policy, streaming music may be forbidden as it can be terribly taxing on the network. Do check with your IT support dept for confirmation.

This is not the MP3 download I had in mind for this week's niche, but it is an MP3 product. If you have a site about content creation, then you can promote this product on it and earn 30% commission for each sale. 9clacks
